Zohran’s policy consequences: Letters

The Issue: The potential outcomes of the policies that Zohran Mamdani plans to introduce if elected mayor.

I am shocked to learn that the people of your city are on a path to electing a fascist as their mayor (“Zon’t like him very much,” Aug. 20).

Zohran Mamdani must be defeated if New York City is to avoid economic and political disaster.

Calling him a socialist or even a communist won’t do it. Everywhere, there should be photos of Mamdani emblazoned with the words: “Don’t vote for the fascist.”

It has been two months since Mamdani’s primary victory and now it’s only three short months until Election Day.

Despite the hand-wringing over what a Mamdani victory would mean to the city and its residents, there has been little talk or pressure for one or more of the other candidates to drop out of the race.

There has been only sporadic condemnation of Mamdani’s economic, education, housing, safety and immigration policies.

For the Jewish community, there is the added dimension of outright hostility toward Israel, and by extension Jews. Very little is being heard from Jewish organizations and that is particularly pathetic. We will likely reap what we sow.

One of the main reasons that Zohran Mamdani is more popular than his opponents is because of his promises to freeze rents, lower the prices of food and provide free transportation.

None of his opponents make similar promises, but that is exactly what they have to do to win.

They have to counter socialist promises with the truth and promise to bring rent prices down by lowering taxes on landlords and builders.

They have to promise to lower the price of food by reducing taxes on grocery stores.

Finally, they have to hammer home the disastrous consequences of rent freezes and government-run grocery stores.

Unless Mamdani’s opponents start promising a better future the way he does, Mamdani will win and bring disaster to New York.

I have a suggestion for everyone in New York City that is planning to vote for Zohran Mamdani: Go watch “Dr. Zhivago.”

Maybe then will you get a small sample of what it is like to live under a communist dictatorship.

The Issue: Lee Zeldin’s criticisms of Battery Energy Storage System installations across New York.

Fossil fuels cause particulate pollution, killing thousands annually in New York (“ ‘Green’ Battery Sites Put NY in Danger,” Lee Zeldin, PostOpinon, Aug. 19).

Unfortunately, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is fixated on the hazards of Battery Energy Storage Systems.

Zeldin fails to mention battery technology improvement through enhanced thermal management systems and ignores the Trump administration’s obsession with frantically building data centers, which leads to soaring electricity prices.

Rather than torpedoing clean energy progress, lawmakers should mandate robust emergency preparedness and community benefit agreements while accelerating our pivot away from climate-wrecking fossil fuels.

Marvin Berkowitz

Needham, Mass.

Lithium battery storage centers are opening in residential areas, all in the name of greening the environment. Can lefty politicians be any more absurd than this?

No one could possibly be dumb enough to believe the reasoning behind this. Once again, Democrats are catering to their big donors and interest groups at the expense of the public and insulting our intelligence as they do it.
