Zohran Mamdani spews word salad excuse after Barack Obama endorsement snub just one day before election

Democratic nominee and proud socialist Zohran Mamdani tried to downplay former President Barack Obama’s refusal to offer up an endorsement over the weekend — with just one day left in one of the most-watched races in the country.
“I appreciated the call with President Obama and his support for the movement that we have created,” Mamdani told reporters in City Hall Park early Monday morning.

“I appreciated his words. I appreciated his time, and I appreciate this movement for putting us on the brink of delivering us a new city in this place,” the Queens lawmaker continued in a convoluted explanation.
The former president was stumping for the Democratic candidate New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill over the weekend, but did not make the trek into New York City to stand beside Mamdani.
Instead, Obama and Mamdani spoke on the phone, but little has emerged about what the two discussed.
The Mamdani campaign had tried to say endorsing in the mayoral race was beneath the former president, but Obama has previously endorsed in many mayoral races, including backing Bill de Blasio in 2013.
Since winning the Democratic primary in June, Mamdani has struggled to create a coalition of those within the moderate wing of the party.
It took months for Gov. Kathy Hochul and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to back his bid for City Hall.
Jeffries even said over the weekend that he didn’t believe Mamdani and far-left wing politics were the future of the Democratic Party.
Mamdani on Monday also tried to paint his rival, independent candidateAndrew Cuomo, as Trump’s pick for mayor, falsely claiming that the president had endorsed the ex-governor.
“We have long known that Andrew Cuomo is Donald Trump’s puppet in this race,” Mamdani said, just hours before his campaign blasted out a release decrying the “endorsement.”
Trump, however, has not endorsed in the race, only saying that if it were between a “communist” and Cuomo, he would choose the ex-governor.
“I’m not a fan of Cuomo one way or another, but if it’s going to be between a bad Democrat and a communist,” the president said on “60 Minutes” on Sunday, adding, “I’m going to pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you.”
