Zohran Mamdani ‘cut and pasted’ same 9/11 anniversary statement for years

Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani is getting scrutinized over his social media posts commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks — with critics pointing out the messages have been nearly identical for years.

A review of the left-wing Queens assemblyman’s X account by The Post found that starting in 2019, Mamdani posted almost carbon copies of the same message to remember the nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks.

“Nearly 3,000 New Yorkers died on 9/11,” reads the post from Sept. 11, 2024. “We mourn our neighbors who died that day. The countless first responders and families whose lives were forever changed. The millions who suffered in the wars that followed.

“In their memory, we work toward a better world.”

All of the Democratic socialist pol’s messages on the 9/11 anniversary for the five years before 2024 were some variation of that post, with slight alterations.

For instance, the post from 2020, the year Mamdani was elected to the state assembly, reads: “Nearly 3,000 New Yorkers died on 9/11; 19 years later, the death hasn’t stopped.”

“We mourn our neighbors who died that day. The hundreds of thousands who died in the wars that followed. The unknown millions injured & displaced,” it says. “In their memory, we work toward a better world.”

The similarities were pointed out in a viral post on X by the user @david_sivella, who describes himself online as a former Democrat and retired government service worker.

“For the past four years as a Socialist Muslim NY Assemblyman, @ZohranKMamdani has literally cut and pasted the same 9/11 statement every year, just changes the years,” the post reads.

“Zohran never mentions 9/11 First Responders, the people he would lead as [mayor].”

While the post from 2024 does mention the “countless first responders and their families,” the previous ones do not, instead noting “the hundreds of thousands who died in the wars that followed” the attacks.

The glaring omission drew outrage from some 9/11 heroes.

“To not mention the hundreds of first responders who died that day, and the hundreds that have died since is the slap in the face to every first responder who continue to make sacrifices every day to make this a safer city,” said retired NYPD Lt. John Grimpel, who was on the corner of Church Street when the Twin Towers fell.

A retired emergency services cop who was at Ground Zero on that tragic day added: “That is bothersome, but not surprising.”

“This is coming from someone who wants to defund the police, so he has to appease his voters. Every time you say it can’t get worse it does,” the retired cop said.

A review of social media posts from the other mayoral candidates – Mayor Eric Adams, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa – found that they each have issued unique statements over the years.

The Mamdani campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mamdani — who has distanced himself from his past “defund the police” views — also drew ire this week, ahead of the 24th anniversary of the attacks, for his association to Hasan Piker, a popular far-left influencer who once said that “America deserved 9/11.”

The frontrunner in the November election dodged questions Wednesday after getting slammed by Cuomo and his supporters for an interview he did with the vile Twitch streamer in April.

“I’m here to talk about the World Cup,” he said when a reporter asked him about it before a press conference in The Bronx about reining in ticket costs for next year’s soccer tournament.

“For him to associate with someone who thinks we deserved 9/11 is outrageous and should not be tolerated,” Oren Barzilay, president of EMS Local 2507 representing the city’s 4,100 paramedics and EMTs told The Post.

Mamdani’s campaign previously suggested that Cuomo engaged in an anti-Muslim smear by bringing up the candidate’s links to Piker. Mamdani, if elected in November, would become the city’s first Muslim mayor.
