Yankees sign Paul Blackburn days after Mets release


The Yankees have signed pitcher Paul Blackburn after he was released earlier this week by the Mets.

The Mets had designated Blackburn for assignment after Friday’s 11-9 loss to clear a roster spot for pitching prospect Nolan McLean, who made his major-league debut the following day.

The 31-year-old righty did not pitch until June 2 this season dealing with right knee inflammation late in spring training and starting the year season on the injured list.

Blackburn went 1-5 with a 6.00 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) with the Mets since they acquired him from Oakland at the 2024 trade deadline.

To make room on the active roster, the Yankees optioned righty Allan Winans to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
