Why Taylor Swift isn’t looking to do Super Bowl halftime show

Taylor Swift is setting the record straight on the Super Bowl halftime buzz.

During a highly anticipated appearance Monday on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the pop superstar — who is two months removed from her August engagement to star Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — explained why she will not be taking the NFL’s biggest stage, putting the kibosh on rumors that it was due to, as Fallon put it, “performance footage.”

“No, no,” the “Fate of Ophelia” singer began, “Well, here’s the thing, Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are really close, they sometimes will call and say, ‘How does she feel about…,’ and that’s not an official offer or a conference room conversation … We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.”

Swift, whose romance with Kelce, 36, exploded into the mainstream two years ago, said her focus for the season is on the “gladiators without swords.”

“The whole season, I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field,” said Swift, who just dropped her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” “Can you imagine if he’s out there every single week putting his life on the line, doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be? … I think we should do two verses of “Shake it Off” into “Blank Space” into “Cruel Summer’” would be great,’ and this has nothing to do with Travis, he would love for me to do it, but I’m just too locked in.”

Since joining Chiefs Kingdom in 2023, Swift, 35, has watched the team make it to the NFL mountaintop in back-to-back seasons.

Upon wrapping Eras Tour performances in Tokyo in February 2024, Swift jetted to Las Vegas, where the Chiefs topped the 49ers in overtime, 25-22, at Allegiant Stadium, with Kelce securing his third Super Bowl win.

Earlier this year, she watched the Chiefs try to make Super Bowl history with a historic three-peat at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans — an effort that fell far short of expectations as the Eagles clobbered the Chiefs, 40-22.

It’s been a slow start to the season for the reigning AFC West champs, who fell to 2-3 after Monday’s 31-28 loss to the Jaguars in which Kelce tallied his second receiving touchdown.

Though it’s anybody’s guess as to which teams will be in Santa Clara, Calif., for Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8, one A-Lister has already secured his spot: three-time Grammy winner Bad Bunny has been tapped to perform the upcoming halftime show.
