Paltrow, according to an excerpt of the book published by People Wednesday, “reached a breaking point” in her friendship with Madonna, 66, after the singer allegedly showed up to an island where Paltrow, 52, was vacationing with her then-husband Chris Martin.
“Madonna seemed to know that Gwyneth would be there,” the excerpt reads, “which Gwyneth seemed to find strange, a friend remembered.”
Madonna “insisted” that the couple join her for a group dinner, during which the Grammy Award winner allegedly “went off” on her daughter Lourdes Leon, 28, per the book.
“Gwyneth and Martin were disgusted by the behavior,” Odell claimed, adding that the Coldplay singer, 48, allegedly told Paltrow: “I can’t be around this woman anymore. She’s awful.”
The Goop founder, according to Odell, “agreed that Madonna was toxic and ended the friendship.”
The Post has reached out to Paltrow and Madonna’s reps for comment.
Odell’s book, out July 29, is based on over 2220 interviews about Paltrow’s acting career, her relationships, and more.
The author claims that the vacation incident occurred “a few years” after Paltrow gave birth to her and Martin’s son Moses in 2006. The exes, who married in 2003 and split in 2014, also share daughter Apple, born in 2004.
Paltrow and Madonna formed a fast friendship in the late 1990s, and the Oscar winner gushed over their bond several years later.
“Everything I have gone through, she went through ten times worse and ten times longer,” Paltrow said in 2006, according to US Weekly.
“She gives me good advice about how to say no and take care of myself.”
The pair reportedly have not been photographed together since 2010. Neither star has talked publicly about their friendship fallout.
But Paltrow alluded to the drama in April 2010 while speaking to British Vogue about business partner and celebrity personal trainer Tracy Anderson.
“Yeah, it’s good that [Tracy] doesn’t train Madonna any more. It was too much,” Paltrow stated. “She keeps people waiting — it takes up your whole day.”
The “Iron Man” actress also said at the time, “Oh yes, I can be mean. I can cave in to gossip. I can ice people out and I definitely harbor revenge.”
