Whoopi Goldberg Sounds Off On Republicans After Democratic Lawmaker Is Fatally Shot: “You Want People To Act Differently And Here You Are Showing Your A**”

Whoopi Goldberg is sounding off on political violence following the murder of a Minnesota lawmaker.

Democratic State Rep. Melissa Hortman, her husband, and their family dog were fatally shot by a masked killer at their home in what Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz described as a “politically-motived assassination.” President Donald Trump, for his part, said he won’t be calling Walz amid the tragedy because “he’s a mess.”

On this morning’s episode of The View, Joy Behar slammed Trump for refusing to send condolences to the Governor of Minnesota.

“Trump is lacking empathy. He doesn’t seem to have that gene that would feel sorry for somebody else’s pain,” Behar claimed. “Remember Clinton, ‘I feel your pain?’ This guy never feels anybody’s pain but his own.”

Trump isn’t the only one who seems to be taking this lightly. Republican Sen. Mike Lee from Utah later posted a picture of the alleged murderer, Vance Boelter, with the caption, “This is what happens. When Marxists get their way.” After Goldberg urged Utah residents to “get rid of” Lee for his insensitive comments about the shooting, she reminded Republicans of a time when they wanted Democrats to tone down the hateful rhetoric following the assassination attempt on Trump last year.

“I listened to people get angry when people were questioning the President’s assassination attempt … We said, ‘This is not the time to do that,’” Goldberg said. “Well, think about it. You can’t do it and not have us say, ‘What’re you doing?’ You just said you want a better, more peaceful time. You want people to act differently and here you are showing your ass. I don’t get it.”

The longtime View moderator also urged Americans to steer away from violence.

“It is unnecessary and we as a society, we as a country, we are better than this. I’m sorry, we are,” she said. “As we have said numerous times on this show, you don’t shoot people. You don’t agree with them? Stop listening! Turn off the television, walk away. You don’t take out a gun and take somebody’s life. It’s not gonna work for us.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
