Whoopi Goldberg Scolds Joy Behar For Pulling Out Her Phone On ‘The View’: “Why Is Your Phone Here?!”
Joy Behar doesn’t go anywhere without her phone — not even the Hot Topics table. On this morning’s episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg scolded the comedian for pulling out her iPhone in the middle of a segment.
Speaking about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) at the top of today’s broadcast, Goldberg explained to her co-hosts why she doesn’t use AI.

“It’s not a thing for me. I don’t like it. I had to deal with Alexa. I was like, ‘I don’t want her.’ And so when she came out, I don’t use her,” she said, referring to Amazon’s voice AI that answers to user commands through a variety of smart home devices.
“They listen to what you’re saying, too,” Behar added, to which Goldberg replied, “She has to be present in order to listen.”
Behar then pulled out her phone and claimed, “Something is listening on this phone.” Bewildered, Goldberg quickly fired back, “Why is your phone here?!”
Behar explained, “It’s part of my body. But if I say something like I really want to get some kind of hairdo, suddenly, hairdo things pop up here. So, someone’s listening on here.”
This isn’t the first time Behar’s phone has gotten her in trouble on The View. The longtime co-host has a habit of forgetting to turn off her sound before joining her fellow co-hosts at the Hot Topics table. During a November 2022 episode, the first segment of the day was interrupted by loud music playing from Behar’s phone, forcing Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines to figure out how to turn it off. Then, in April 2023, a “serious” conversation about mass shootings in the U.S. was cut short by the sound of Behar’s Siri telling her, “Speed camera reported ahead.”
“My phone goes off all the time. Why does Siri talk to me? I don’t ask her to speak to me,” Behar complained at the time.
That’s not all. In March 2024, Alyssa Farah Griffin was interrupted by Behar’s alarm going off. And who could forget about the time Behar shared that “When the Saints Go Marching In” began playing in the middle of her pap smear?! Some things might never change.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
