Whoopi Goldberg Defiantly Responds To Critics Claiming ‘The View’ Didn’t Address Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension: “No One Silences Us”

When The View returned with a brand new episode Monday (Sept. 22) morning, Whoopi Goldberg wasted no time in addressing their critics.

After Jimmy Kimmel Live was indefinitely suspended on ABC Wednesday (Sept. 17) following Jimmy Kimmel’s controversial comments about Charlie Kirk, many celebrities and comedians spoke out in support of the late night host. But The View seemingly glossed over the topic during Thursday’s broadcast, prompting confusion and even some criticism from the likes of Bill Maher.

At the top of the show Monday, Goldberg carefully explained why The View waited to address Kimmel’s suspension.

“Did y’all really think we weren’t gonna talk about Jimmy Kimmel?” she asked, prompting laughter from her co-hosts and the audience.

“I mean, have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons?” she continued. “So, you know, no one silences us.”

She explained that The View has not gone anywhere – despite FCC head Brendan Carr’s threats.

“We’re still here, we’re still broadcasting. And when the news broke last week about Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, we took a breath to see if he would say something,” she explained, adding that they did the same thing for Stephen Colbert, after it was announced The Late Show was ending in May 2026.

“But we are live here today and we are getting into it now,” she concluded.

During their discussion, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro all took turns speaking out in favor of protecting the right to freedom of speech.

Navarro condemned the “horrible senseless assignation of Charlie Kirk” and pointed out that, while she “disagreed” with him on some topics, his death is “being used to silence people and cancel people.”

“The government itself is using its weight and power to bully and to scare people into silence,” she stated on The View.

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
