Which sport has best system to determine winner in tie games?
As often happens, it was a very smart email from a very smart reader that got me thinking long and hard about a subject. I’ll let Jeff Gorlechen get this started:
“Is there anything more inane than college football overtime? It’s like three drunk dudes sat at a bar and figured out the rules. Before there was a legit playoff system, I got the desire for not wanting ties in college football. But now that there is a playoff, what is this insanity they use to decide a game after a 60-minute slugfest?”

As I read that, I found myself cheering out loud. Because nothing drives me battier than the way college football decides ties.
(And I am on record saying this, many times: What’s wrong with regular-season ties? Sometimes a game simply deserves to end up in a tie. That 40-40 Green Bay-Dallas game last Sunday night? That had “tie” written all over it for almost the whole game — and we’ll return to that game shortly.)
Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
