TLC is diving into the “unsettling” allegations surrounding The Real Housewives of Salt of Lake City star Mary Cosby and the church she shares with her husband in the new three-part docuseries The Cult of the Real Housewife.

Cosby’s grandmother Rosemary “Mama” Cosby founded the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church. But after Mama Cosby passed away, the church was struck by controversy when Mama Cosby’s husband, Robert Cosby Sr., married her (and his non-biological) granddaughter, Mary, in 1998. At the time, he was 45 and she was 25 years old.

The couple now share a son, 21-year-old Robert Cosby Jr.

“This hotly contested bequeathment pushed Faith Temple into a controversial, new era,” reads TLC’s synopsis of the damning new documentary series. It also allegedly caused a massive rift between Mary and her family. Now, the Bravo star, who remains a fan-favorite throughout her six-season run on RHOSLC, is being accused of spiritual and financial misconduct.

The Cult of the Real Housewife features testimonies from former congregants speaking out for the very first time, alongside members of Mary’s family providing”deeply personal and disturbing accounts” and a cult expert offering insight into the playbook of creating “mind-control cults.”

The documentary “pulls back the salacious headlines and social media takes to dive deeper and unpack one of the most enduring mysteries at the core of the scandal: How have Mary and Robert Cosby Sr. managed to avoid accountability for so long?”
