For once, there is joy in Mudville Wrigleyville.

Led by stellar campaigns from Pete Crow-Armstrong, Michael Busch, Matthew Boyd, Dansby Swanson and an up-and-down Kyle Tucker, the Chicago Cubs went 92-70 in Craig Counsell’s second year at the helm and advanced to the playoffs for the first time since the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign.

Next up, their best-of-three Wild Card series against Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr.’s 90-72 San Diego Padres gets underway at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

To make sure you’re in the loop, here are all the pertinent details about the short Chi-Town showdown:

As of now, last-minute tickets are still available for all three Cubs-Padres Wild Card games.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets for any one game was $96 including fees on Vivid Seats. To be fair, those are standing room passes; the cheapest seat is going for $104 with fees.

Other games have inventory starting anywhere from $121 to $137 including fees.

Prior to this series, the Cubs and Padres played six times over the course of the 162-game 2025 regular season. They split those contests, all of which took place in April.

What happens here — the Cubbies are yet to announce a starter for game one against Nick Pivetta — is anyone’s guess.

“…if we’re going to play a lot of October baseball, some of these guys are going to have to do some special things,” Counsell said. “…which ones? Doesn’t really matter…we’ve got a lot of candidates.”
