As always, the best of the best in the sport will be there. According to the US Open, “the field includes 18 total former Grand Slam singles champions, including 10 former US Open champions.”
Most notably, last year’s winners Jannik Sinner (who recently prevailed at Wimbledon) and Aryna Sabalenka — who both happen to be ranked No. 1 in the world — are locked in, ready to rally and hoping to repeat.
No. 2s Coco Gauff (who took home the US Open title in 2023) and Carlos Alcaraz (the 2022 victor) are also set to take part in the annual competition that prominently features a sweet, little cocktail known as the Honey Deuce.
Reigning Wimbledon champ Iga Swiatek, Wimbledon semifinalist Taylor Fritz, Australian Open winner Madison Keys, 2023 US Open semifinalist Ben Shelton and No. 4 Jessica Pegula round out the top spots in the lineup.
Also slated to serve and slice at courts off the 7 train these next few weeks are 16 wild cards (eight in each singles draw) and 32 qualifiers (16 men along with 16 women) duking it out to earn spots in the Qualifying Tournament over the course of US Open Fan Week, which kicks off Aug. 18.
That includes 45-year-old Venus Williams who just qualified for a wild card entry in the mixed-doubles tournament.
Don’t forget all the celebs that line the stands either: last year, Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, Simone Biles, Alicia Keys and Steph Curry were all spotted cheering quietly at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
