When Does ‘Foundation’ Season 3 Come Out on Apple TV+?
Since its launch in 2019, Apple TV+ has low key become the streaming destination for science fiction fans. Foundation is arguably the best and boldest of the streamer’s many genre hits, weaving together the cerebral lore of Isaac Asimov’s novels with gorgeous, propulsive storytelling. Foundation Season 3 premieres later this week, finally bringing book fans face to face with iconic characters like The Mule (Pilou Asbæk), Magnifico Giganticus (Tómas Lemarquis), and newlyweds Bayta (Synnøve Karlsen) and Toran Mallow (Cody Fern). So when does Foundation Season 3 come out?
Foundation is set in a distant future where the galaxy is ruled by a “genetic empire.” At any moment in time, three generations of Cleon clones — known as Brother Dawn (Cassian Bilton), Brother Day (Lee Pace), and Brother Dusk (Terrence Mann) — rule over the bulk of the galaxy with the help of the android Demerzel (Laura Birn). However, a brilliant mathematician named Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) attracted these all-powerful leaders’ scorn in Season 1 by creating “psychohistory,” a way to predict the cataclysmic future. Hari and his protege Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) ask to create the Foundation, a community devoted to Seldon’s teachings to save human knowledge during the impending dark ages.

Can’t remember what happened in Foundation Season 2? It’s cool. A lot happened. The basic gist of what you need to remember is that Gaal and the flesh and bone Hari copy succeeded in launching the Second Foundation on Ignis. Salvor Hardin tragically died in the process, but in doing so, proved the future was mutable. Members of the Second Foundation have enhanced psychic abilities, making them “mentallics.”
Throughout Foundation Season 2, Gaal had nightmares of a future where she would be attacked by another powerful psychic called the “Mule.” In preparation for this future crisis, Gaal and Hari go into cryo sleep, waking up every so often to keep tabs on the Second Foundation.
Elsewhere, we learn the twisted backstory to how the original Cleon I discovered Demerzel and reprogrammed her to obey his genetic dynasty. However, we also learned that the genetic dynasty is actually quite flawed, with each subsequent generation straying further from the original Cleon. This means that Demerzel is actually in charge. Hari has also gifted her a copy of the Prime Radiant.
The present-day Brother Day leads a battle to totally destroy the Foundation homeworld of Terminus, but it’s revealed that the Vault is able to save many of the residents, including Brother Constant, who is pregnant with Hober Mallow’s baby. A new Foundation will be built.
