What we learned from Jets’ Week 14 loss: The concerning hurdle they can never seem to clear

The Jets lost 34-10 to the Dolphins on Sunday to drop to 3-10 this season. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:
1. The Jets’ playoff drought reached 15 years with their official elimination on Sunday. That drought gets plenty of attention and you can dissect it from all different angles. One aspect that I don’t think gets discussed enough is just how bad the Jets have been within the AFC East over that time.

Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins makes the Jets 0-4 this season against division opponents with games against the Patriots and Bills remaining on the schedule. That means another losing year within the division. You have to go back to 2010, the last year the Jets made the playoffs, to find the last time the Jets finished with a winning record within the division.
Since 2011, the Jets are 25-63 (.284 winning percentage) in the AFC East. They are in danger this season of having the third winless season within the division over that time. They had three 3-3 seasons within the division, but none since 2015. Over the last six seasons, the Jets went 0-6, 0-6, 2-4, 2-4, 2-4 and this year 0-4 against the division.
