What Taylor Swift’s dad told Travis Kelce when he asked for permission to propose
Scott Swift didn’t hold back when Travis Kelce asked for his permission for his daughter’s hand in marriage.
During an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of “The Jimmy & Nath Show with Emma,” the NFL star’s dad, Ed Kelce, recalled Scott urging the Chiefs’ tight end to “get it done,” referring to a proposal.

“It’s kinda funny, I was talking to Scott Swift and Travis went to ask him for permission,” Ed, 74, said. “And this was probably a month ago.

“Scott said, ‘Oh come on, when are you gonna get this done?’ Travis had these plans to do it… before he took off for Brazil, and was gonna make a big production out of it some place. But, you know, [he] wanted to make it special.
“And I told the same thing Scott told him, ‘Asking her is what’s going to make it special. Not where you do it, you know?’ You can do it on the side of the road … And Scott adds on, ‘Just get it done. Don’t worry about any special date. Just you’re ready. You got the ring. Go do it.’”
The three-time Super Bowl champ proposed to the 14-time Grammy winner at his Leawood, Kan., estate, Page Six confirmed.
In a separate interview with News 5 in Cleveland, Ed revealed the proposal took place nearly two weeks ago at the All-Pro tight end’s home
Travis and Taylor, who began dating in 2023, announced their engagement on Instagram on Tuesday, sharing a carousel of photos taken in a garden filled with pink and white flowers.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the couple captioned the joint post, which was set to her track “So High School” from 2024’s “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Travis proposed to Taylor with a rectangle-cut diamond with antique references and a silver band, which he co-designed with his jeweler Kindred Lubeck and Artifex Fine Jewelry.
Ed explained that Travis didn’t come to him for advice, but he did show him a photo of the engagement ring.
“I think I think it’s great, I think it’s wonderful,” Ed said. “They’re two young people, madly in love with each other and I’ve never seen them quite so happy.
“He didn’t come to me for advice as much as I went to him to tell him to you know, get this done.”
