What Is Wrong With Hen On ‘9-1-1’? And Is Aisha Hinds Leaving ‘9-1-1’?

Another 9-1-1 episode, another near-death experience that has fans fearing for the fate of a core character and wondering if a beloved actor might be departing the series.

With call center dispatchers, the LAPD, and members of the 118 regularly navigating high-stakes emergencies, it’s no surprise that ABC’s hit first responder drama frequently puts its characters lives in danger and keeps fans on the edge of their seats. Despite adrenaline-heavy episodes in 9-1-1‘s first seven seasons, the main characters still felt invincible. But after Captain Bobby Nash’s (Peter Krause) painfully unexpected, show-altering death in Season 8, fans are on higher alert whenever anyone on screen is in peril or a character’s storyline presents a potential opportunity for an actor to depart the show.

As Season 9’s out-of-this-world opening emergency played out, fans feared that Angela Bassett could be leaving 9-1-1. But thankfully, Athena returned to Earth in one piece! Just two episodes later, however, 9-1-1 gave fans serious reason to worry about Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, played by Aisha Hinds.

So what is wrong with Hen on 9-1-1? Is Hen dying? And is Aisha Hinds leaving 9-1-1? Here’s why fans are worried after 9-1-1 Season 9, Episode 7.

Is Hen Leaving 9-1-1? What Is Wrong With Hen On 9-1-1?

Concern over Hen’s wellbeing first sparked during Season 9, Episode 6, which saw the 118 paramedic struggling with mysterious symptoms, including tremors, loss of balance, rashes, migraines, muscle soreness, and more. She even collapsed in her home one day, and while it’s unclear how long she was knocked out, when she woke up it was dark outside! Hen chose to keep her symptoms a secret, but after telling Maddie that a patient of hers was dealing with the medical mystery, the two ruled out stroke, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, mononucleosis, and syphilis. Maddie suggested that the patient get a CT scan to learn more, so the episode ended with Hen getting a scan at the questionable Luna clinic from the same doctor who clocked her tremor earlier in the episode. So what the heck is wrong with Hen?!

Season 9, Episode 7 opened with Hen sitting in a treatment facility with an IV in her arm. She explained to the woman next to her that she’d been there “once a week for the past three months” and she “tried every treatment they have to offer.” AHH!!!! When the woman asked what was wrong with her, Hen replied, “I actually have no idea.” And yes, three months into her mysterious symptoms, she still hadn’t told any of her loved ones. Why?! That’s what Karen wanted to know when she discovered thousands of dollars in Luna charges on their credit card bill and found a bag of Hen’s medications! Hen said she didn’t want to worry anyone, and that every blood test and scan thus far was inconclusive…

Karen (and many viewers, I’m sure!) couldn’t understand why Hen hadn’t seen a top doctor or told Chimney and taken leave from work yet. So Hen headed to the fire station with the intention of talking to Chim. When the 118 was called to put out a fire, the conversation was put on hold, but when Hen went to rescue a child from the flames, her symptoms flared and she barely made it out of the burning building alive. She collapsed in front of everyone and woke up in the hospital with stable vitals but STILL no diagnosis.

While we don’t know what’s wrong with Hen at the end of Episode 907, since learning how severe the issue was, Chimney took action. “I can’t have someone on the team who puts her life and the lives of her coworkers and the public at risk,” he told Hen. “You don’t trust me, Hen. And I need to be able to trust you, and right now, I can’t… You’re done at the 118.” Double AHHHH!!! So now that Chim dismissed her from the team, does that mean Hen’s leaving the show?

Is Aisha Hinds Leaving 9-1-1?

By now, 9-1-1 fans likely know the drill. Unless production spoils something out in the open and it’s well documented on social media, like Bobby’s entire funeral procession, we all have to watch to find out what happens. Even reporters don’t know Hen’s fate, that said, I HIGHLY, severely doubt that the series would dare — or can afford to — kill off another main character or lose another core cast member so soon after Bobby/Krause.

I’ll be the first to admit that I never thought the show would actually kill off the 118’s beloved captain and the show’s patriarch, which means we can never say never! But can you imagine doing that to Karen? To ATHENA, who admitted she’s “scared to death” over Hen’s medical mystery? To the 118 members and fans who are still grieving? Hen herself said, “I love my job. I’m not ready for this to be the end of my story.” So we have faith that it won’t be, and that Hinds isn’t permanently departing the series.

Let the record show that we’ve also seen characters leave the 118 for various reasons before, and return! Heck, Eddie moved to Texas and returned! So when Athena told Hen, “It doesn’t have to be [the end of your story], maybe it’s the start of a new chapter,” that likely suggests we’ll follow Hen’s journey outside of the firehouse for a bit while she gets to the bottom of her symptoms.

Hopefully she’ll sort everything out and can reevaluate her career. And hopefully — like, fingers freaking crossed, because how much more can we take?! — no matter how the story unfolds, Hinds isn’t going anywhere! That said, what the heck is wrong with Hen?! We’re still worried, confused, and incredibly curious! And let Hen REST! She already went to SPACE this season! Is this some weird delayed space reaction? Tune in next Thursday for more answers in Episode 8!
