“As long as LeBron James’ future in Los Angeles remains uncertain, Golden State will undoubtedly be mentioned as a potential James suitor,” Fischer wrote in his newsletter. “I’m told that the Warriors have called the Lakers on multiple occasions over the past 18 months to see whether there is any trade pathway to pairing James with Stephen Curry…”

It’s far from the first time the Warriors have looked at adding the four-time NBA MVP.
Before the 2024 trade deadline, Golden State unsuccessfully attempted to acquire James after he and the Lakers didn’t sign off on a potential trade, which had been run past both teams’ ownership.
During the 2024 Summer Olympics, James was ecstatic to pair with Curry on the U.S. National Team, saying it was “about f–king time” they played together, which led many to speculate that they could one day join forces in the NBA.
The latest rumblings come as James and the Lakers are in the midst of a rough patch.
The franchise has gone all-in on new star Luka Doncic, whom they recently signed to a three-year, $165 million contract extension.

After James exercised his player option for the 2025-26 season in late June, his agent, Rich Paul, alluded to a potential trade request with an ominous statement reinforcing James’ desire to compete for a championship next season.
The Warriors also find themselves in an awkward situation.
The team is in a stalemate with former 2021 No. 7 overall pick Jonathan Kuminga, who is a restricted free agent and reportedly wants out of Golden State.
The front office has been trying to find a sign-and-trade partner for Kuminga but yet to find a deal of their liking.
