Y-3, which is a collaboration between Adidas and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, unveiled a U.S. Open collection Aug. 16. The collection features 18 pieces, including women’s sleeveless tank tops, tennis shorts and dresses, as well as men’s T-shirts and shorts.
The Adidas U.S. Open collection is available to purchase on the Adidas website.
While Y-3 has been one of the more prominent collections seen around the grounds, red has been the color of the tournament.
Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, Emma Raducanu, Victoria Mboko, Alexandra Eala, Jannik Sinner, Marta Kostyuk and Frances Tiafoe are among some of the players who have sported the rouge.
“It just happened to be the color of the tournament,” Raducanu said after her 6-2, 6-1 win over Janice Tjen in the second round Wednesday. “Quite a lot of other brands are also in red, but, of course, I love wearing red in general. I don’t know. I think it’s a decent color for me.”
Upset of the day
Raphael Collignon took down No. 12 Casper Ruud 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 on Court 17 on Wednesday to reach the third round. It counts as the most notable victory of the young Belgian’s career.
“I think it’s the best day of my life,” the 23-year-old said during his on-court interview.
The win over Ruud, who was a U.S. Open finalist in 2022, marks Collignon’s first over a top-20 player. Despite making only 35 unforced errors to Collignon’s 35, Ruud bowed out in the second round of a Grand Slam for the third time this season.
Quote of the day
“I’m just trying to be locked in. Just trying to solve the riddle once I’m on the court. It’s not like I’m not finding joy on the court competing, I enjoy competing. But I don’t enjoy not playing well, so I put extra pressure on myself and my team to be better the next day, the next match… I’ll make sure I’ll fist-pump just for you. For your eyes only, next one.”
— Novak Djokovic said of how he feels out on the court
