UK cops deny arresting girl over social media post
Shocking claims that United Kingdom cops arrested a young girl for merely viewing social media posts quickly went viral online — but are completely false, local police said, adding that the rumors stem from a cyberbullying investigation involving the teen.
West Midlands police bashed the wild narrative after an online post, including a chopped and edited clip showing two officers at the teen girl’s door, falsely claimed the department was probing the child for looking at a post, according to local reports.

“We are aware of reports that we are investigating a child for viewing a social media post. This is completely incorrect,” a West Midlands police spokesperson said in a statement published Sunday.
“We are investigating after a complaint from a member of the public that a fake social media account had been created in their name and had been used to send indecent messages,” the statement added.
British law enforcement officials said the messages were “of an incredibly serious nature,” had caused “serious concern” to the victim and are being treated as “sending indecent or grossly offensive communication to cause distress or anxiety.”
Officers made “a number of attempts” to speak with a suspect — “a teenage girl” — at her home address in Walsall earlier this month, West Midlands cops said.
“On September 13, we spoke to the girl’s mother at her home and explained we needed to speak to her daughter and recover her mobile phone as part of the investigation,” police said.
“The following day, the girl attended a police station for a voluntary interview, and the investigation continues.”
The department also addressed a video clip circulating online that shows officers at the address on Sept. 13.
“We are aware of a brief and heavily edited video clip showing part of the 13 September visit,” the police department said.
“The clip is misleading, and we have reviewed a 10-minute body-worn video recording showing the full exchange.”
The footage showed officers seeking to seize a mobile phone as part of the inquiry and carried the force’s statement refuting claims the child was being investigated for viewing a post, the local outlet Express & Star reported.
No arrests or charges were announced. Police said only that the “investigation continues.”
The Post has sought comment from West Midlands police.
