Trump urges NFL teams to hire John Harbaugh after Ravens firing

President Donald Trump delivered a sharp message Wednesday to former Ravens coach John Harbaugh’s prospective employers: “Hire” him — and “fast.”

In a brief post shared on Truth Social, the commander in chief endorsed the Super Bowl-winning coach, who was ousted from Baltimore on Tuesday in a stunning move after 18 seasons at the helm.

“HIRE JOHN HARBAUGH, FAST. HE, AND HIS BROTHER, ARE TOTAL WINNERS!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote, referencing Harbaugh’s younger brother, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh.

The message arrived just hours after the Ravens confirmed they were moving on from Harbaugh after a disappointing 8-9 campaign that failed to produce a postseason berth for the first time since 2021.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision, given the tremendous 18 years we have spent together and the profound respect I have for John as a coach and, most importantly, as a great man of integrity,” Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said in a statement Tuesday evening.

“Throughout what I firmly believe is a Hall of Fame coaching career, John has delivered a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore and served as a steadfast pillar of humility and leadership. He and his family have deeply embedded themselves in this community. For these profound contributions, on and off the field, we should all be forever grateful.

“Our goal has always been and will always be to win Championships. We strive to consistently perform at the highest level on the field and be a team and organization our fans take pride in.”

Harbaugh, originally hired by the Ravens in 2008 after serving as the Eagles’ special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach across nine years, expressed gratitude for his time in Baltimore in the wake of Tuesday’s shakeup.

“Well, I was hoping for a different kind of message on my last day here, someday, but that day has come today. 😊 It comes with disappointment certainly, but more with GRATITUDE & APPRECIATION,” he began.

“Gratitude to the owner and organization who was willing to bring in a head coach who made his mark with Special Teams success. A difficult thing to do … and Appreciation for all the moments, all these years, that are etched into eternity.”

Harbaugh, 63, is now viewed as the hottest coaching candidate on the market as seven teams — with the mystery suitor without a vacancy rumored to be the Dolphins — have expressed interest.

The Ravens now join the Giants, Raiders, Falcons, Titans, Cardinals and Browns as the teams with vacancies.

The Giants, who dismissed head coach Brian Daboll midseason, have lined up interviews with former Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy, former Falcons coach Raheem Morris, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, who is speaking with the team Wednesday.

NFL clubs are required to interview at least two external minority candidates for head coach vacancies prior to making a hire in accordance with the Rooney Rule.

Before the start of the 2025 season, the Harbaugh brothers met with Trump at the White House.

John previously spent time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with former President Barack Obama following his Super Bowl 2013 triumph over his younger sibling, then coach of the 49ers.
