Trump demands Microsoft fire ex-Biden DOJ official Lisa Monaco

President Trump on Friday demanded that Microsoft fire Lisa Monaco — the former Biden-era deputy attorney general now serving as the tech giant’s president of global affairs — calling her “a menace to U.S. National Security” with access to “Highly Sensitive Information.”

Trump, in a Truth Social post, urged the software giant to “immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco,” warning that her role overseeing Microsoft’s global policy poses risks given the firm’s vast US government contracts.

Trump also claimed Monaco had her federal security clearances revoked earlier this year and was barred from government facilities over unspecified “wrongful acts.”

Monaco, 57, served as deputy attorney general under former President Joe Biden from 2021 to 2025, overseeing prosecutions and national security cases as the Justice Department’s second-in-command.

She is said to have had a prominent role in overseeing high-profile and politically sensitive cases such as the department’s prosecution of Trump as well as cases involving Jan. 6 defendants.

She also served in the Obama administration as White House homeland security and counterterrorism adviser from 2013 to 2017, coordinating the government’s response to terrorism and cyber threats.

Before that, Monaco led the Justice Department’s National Security Division as assistant attorney general from 2011 to 2013, after serving as principal associate deputy attorney general and as chief of staff to FBI Director Robert Mueller.

The Biden Justice Department pursued multiple criminal and civil cases against Trump, including indictments led by Special Counsel Jack Smith over election interference and classified documents.

The Biden DOJ was also accused of expediting prosecutions in order to inflict damage on Trump’s candidacy. Biden and then-Attorney General Merrick Garland insisted decisions were made independently.

Smith is under investigation by the Office of Special Counsel after GOP Sen. Tom Cotton alleged his prosecutions of Trump were politically motivated and tried to affect the 2024 presidential election.

Smith has denied the allegations.

Trump’s demand that Microsoft oust Monaco comes at a sensitive time for the tech behemoth.

Microsoft is under an extensive antitrust investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) — a probe which began during the Biden administration under Lina Khan and has intensified under Trump’s FTC chair, Andrew Ferguson.

Both Democratic and Republican officials have expressed concern about Microsoft’s market dominance in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and productivity software.

The FTC investigation targets Microsoft’s practice of bundling Office productivity, cloud and cybersecurity services, especially for lucrative government contracts, potentially locking in federal agencies and stifling competition.

On Thursday, Trump’s DOJ charged former FBI Director James Comey with perjury and obstruction of justice.

The charges stem from Comey’s testimony to a Congressional committee in 2020 during which he denied authorizing leaks to the press related to FBI investigations into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in 2015-16.

Comey has denied the claims made in the indictment.

The Post has sought comment from Microsoft and the White House.
