Trump defies federal court, sends 300 California National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon

President Trump on Sunday sent 300 California National Guard troops to Portland defying a federal order blocking the move – as Golden State Gov. Gavin Newsom promised to sue over the move.

“After a federal court blocked his attempt to federalize the Oregon National Guard, Donald Trump is deploying 300 California National Guard personnel into Oregon,” Newsom said in a post on X, later calling the order “un-American.”

“They are on their way there now.”

Newsom’s fiery threat comes after a federal judge in Oregon temporarily halted the Trump administration from deploying 200 National Guard troops to the “war ravaged” city that has been under siege by anti-ICE agitators for more than 100 straight days.

US District Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump nominee, ruled Saturday that deploying active-duty troops to secure the Oregon city would not only violate the US Constitution but defy federal law barring military involvement in domestic law enforcement.

She also said that Trump’s order did not reflect the reality of the protests taking place in Portland.
“Overall, the protests were small and uneventful,” she wrote.

“The President’s determination was simply untethered to the facts.”

The temporary restraining order blocking Trump’s move will expire on Oct. 18.

The White House did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
