Wright will become the first retired Mets jersey for a player who spent his entire career with the organization, and his tenure in Queens (from 2004-2018) was cemented when he inked an eight-year contract worth $138 million in 2012. The only times Wright did not play for the Mets organization came in appearances for Team USA in multiple World Baseball Classic tournaments, including a game-winning, two-run single on March 17, 2009, to lift the Americans to a win over Puerto Rico to avoid elimination and advance to the semifinals. The Virginia native also blasted a grand slam against Italy during pool play at the 2013 WBC.
