‘Today’s Jenna Bush Hager Looks Back On Dana Carvey’s Impression Of George H. W. Bush on ‘SNL’: “We Laughed Hysterically At Some Of It”
Today‘s Jenna Bush Hager revealed that her family and her grandfather, former U.S. President George H. W. Bush, was a big fan of Dana Carvey‘s Saturday Night Live impersonation of him. So much so, he once invited Carvey to the White House to perform it for his staff.
Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones were discussing Jimmy Kimmel‘s recent return to late night when Bush Hager pointed out that being ridiculed or talked about in the media is “part” of the job for public figures, which she learned having grown up as the daughter and granddaughter of two former United States presidents.

“I remember reading stuff about him where I was like, ‘Oh gosh,’ like as a little kid,” she told Jones. “That hurts and that’s not the man that I know, and that’s part of the job.”
Bush Hager then shared that her grandfather once invited Carvey to the White House after he lost the 1992 presidential election to perform his impression of him for his campaign staff.
“My grandfather was devastated he felt like he didn’t finish the job. He felt like he let down his staff,” Bush Hager recounted. “He had Dana come to the White House to make fun of him so he could cheer up his staff, who was disappointed upon the results.”
She added that even her family enjoyed Carvey’s impersonation of President George H. W. Bush.
“We laughed hysterically at some of it and I think that’s part of it, too. You can’t take yourself so seriously,” she said.
Bush Hager previously revealed that her father, former U.S. President George W. Bush, was a fan of Will Ferrell’s SNL impression of him.
“Yeah, I love to roast my dad. Like when he was the president, Barbara and I would show him the Saturday Night Lives where they made fun of him and stuff,” she said. “He loved it!”
“if you’re going to be the President of the United States, people are going to make fun of you!” she said at the time. “And guess what? It ain’t just about you. That’s how it is, man! That’s how it’s always been!”
