“When it came time to whack him, there was a stunt ass. There was a double,” O’Leary, 71, told Variety in a new interview. “[Chalamet] wouldn’t do it. He said he’ll do it himself. He didn’t want some other ass immortalized.”

The scene occurs when O’Leary’s character, pen entrepreneur Milton Rockwell, demands Chalamet’s Marty Mauser, an aspiring ping-pong champion, pull his pants down so he can spank him as an act of dominance before they team up to make Marty’s dreams a reality.

O’Leary, who makes his acting debut in the film, told Variety he was supposed to use a fake paddle on Chalamet, but the prop broke after one hit, so he had to use a real one.

Filming the scene “went on for hours,” O’Leary said, adding that director Josh Safdie demanded 40 takes until 4 AM.

“Josh said, ‘You’ve got to wind up harder,’” the “Shark Tank recalled. “I was really whacking him.”

O’Leary explained that the spanking was “a pivotal scene of humiliation” for Marty because “he had pissed me off so much and insulted me so many times that capital punishment was correct.”

“I never felt satisfied that he suffered enough for what he did,” O’Leary added of Chalamet’s character. “Even now, I’m still pissed.”

“Marty Supreme,” also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher, has already received three Golden Globe nominations, including Best Actor for Chalamet, and is getting major Oscar buzz ahead of the Jan. 22 nominations announcement.

Throughout the film’s press tour, Chalamet has spoken about how “proud” he is of “Marty Supreme.”

“It is an incredible, unconventional movie with an incredible, unconventional director,” he recently said on “The Graham Norton Show.” “It’s about the pursuit of the singular dream of following your heart. I believe it is an important film to put out now. I hope this movie can serve as an antidote to the dark times because ultimately, it is about dreaming big.”

“What starts off as a table tennis movie evolves into a heist film, and lands in a very human place,” Chalamet added. “It is one of the films I am most proud of.”

“Marty Supreme” is in theaters now.
