Three men arrested for ‘attempted murder’ of feds in Minneapolis id’d as illegal immigrants from Venezuela

The three men arrested for ambushing an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday have all been identified as illegal immigrants from Venezuela who were let into the country under the Biden administration, officials said Thursday, calling the attack an “attempted murder” of federal law enforcement officers.

The Department of Homeland Security said the suspects, Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, Alfredo Alejandro Ajorna and Gabriel Alejandro Hernandez-Ledzema, were all in the country illegally, and are now in ICE custody.

“What we saw last night in Minneapolis was an attempted murder of federal law enforcement. Our officer was ambushed and attacked by three individuals who beat him with snow shovels and the handles of brooms. Fearing for his life, the officer fired a defensive shot,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement.

“Mayor Frey and Governor Walz have to get their city under control. They are encouraging impeding and assault against our law enforcement which is a federal crime, a felony. This is putting the people of Minnesota in harm’s way.”

Protests have roiled Minneapolis since the Jan. 7 shooting death of Renee Good, who was killed by an ICE agent after clipping him with her SUV while attempting to evade arrest.

Sosa-Celis was shot in the leg after he started viciously assaulting an ICE agent with a “shovel or broomstick,” who fired a defensive shot after the two other men rushed out of a nearby apartment to join in the attack with a snow shovel and broom handle.

Here’s the latest on the Minneapolis ICE agent shooting:

Agents were conducting a traffic stop on Sosa-Celis when he fled, crashed his car into a parked vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Sosa-Celis, who illegally entered the country in 2022, was previously arrested for driving without a license and two counts of giving a false name to a peace officer but “released by Minnesota authorities before ICE could even lodge a detainer,” according to DHS.

Ajorna was picked up after slipping into the US in May, 2023, and was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge after he failed to show up to his hearing.

Hernandez-Ledezma, who also entered the US in May, 2023, was, according to DHS, marked by the Biden administration as a “non-enforcement priority.”

The Post has reached out to DHS for information regarding the charges the three men face.
