‘This Is Us’ author ‘felt forced’ to choose between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively

“This is Us” author Colleen Hoover reportedly felt she had to choose between the film’s director, Justin Baldoni, and star Blake Lively amid their falling out.
“I know things took an awful turn, and I felt forced to choose when I did not want to,” the author allegedly wrote in a 2024 text message to Baldoni, which was included in a declaration filed by Wayfarer co-defendants on Nov. 10, according to documents obtained by People.

“But the back and forth articles from both camps is just so upsetting and ridiculous,” the alleged text continued in part.
“It’s making everyone working on this movie look immature. Everyone is out there trying to save themselves and now this has turned into a huge mess.”
“And I know you guys think I’ve made decisions for certain reasons but I have felt the rift from long before I ever was in contact with Blake,” the alleged text continued.
Hoover’s alleged text went on to chide Baldoni for his “actions.”
“I have been disappointed personally by your actions many times,” the text read.
“I appreciate that you haven’t directly said anything negative, that’s how it should be. But you are grown men with a platform. You know how to use it to protect your image. Please don’t continue to use it to harm me or mine. That’s all I’m asking.”
The text was allegedly sent from Hoover to Baldoni to share with his PR team in August 2024.
A rep for Hoover was not immediately available for comment. Page Six has also reached out to a rep for Baldoni.
Lively, 38, sued Baldoni for sexual harassment and retaliation back in December 2024, and is seeking over $160 million for emotional distress and other damages.
Amid her allegations are that Baldoni, 41, orchestrated a smear campaign against the “Gossip Girl” alum, alongside other co-defendants, in an attempt to affect her public image.
Baldoni — who has denied wrongdoing — filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others, in January. It was dismissed by the judge in June.
The author of the source material, which revolves around the cycle of domestic violence, was previously deposed in the case — alongside co-star Jenny Slate, among others — which has a trial date set for March 2026.
Hoover previously took to Instagram Stories in December 2024 to support the actress. “@blakelively, you have been nothing but honest, kind, supportive and patient since the day we met,” she wrote atop a snapshot of herself and Lively in a warm embrace.
“Thank you for being exactly the human that you are. Never change. Never wilt.”
Hoover also included a link to a New York Times article outlining her original legal complaint.
After briefly deactivating her Instagram amid the drama, Hoover returned to the platform in February — with photos of Lively and Baldoni removed.
