The Empire State ranks in the top 10 cheapest states for catching a domestic flight, costing air travelers $377.87, on average, to cruise the clouds within the US, according to a new report.

To determine flight affordability, researchers for NetCredit, an online loans resource, calculated the number of work-hours needed — at the average local wage, per the Bureau of Labor — to cover airfare in each state.
Hawaii, where the typical price of plane ticket is $287.79, and New Jersey, offering mile-high trips at a median of $308.70, landed in first and second place as the nation’s least expensive flight hotspots, respectively.
It’s high praise based on how much each state’s residents are getting paid.
“We compared the cost of domestic flights from each state and hub airport to the average local wage,” explained study authors, who found Wyoming, where an average flight costs $611.73, to be the most pricey place for hopping a plane.
“New Jersey and Hawaii remain the easiest places to book flights,” the experts maintained.
Investigators found that New Jerseyans only have to work 8.41 hours to afford a ride in the friendly skies, while Hawaiians need to complete a 8.77 hour shift for the same privilege.
New Yorkers, however, would have tough out the daily grind for a minimum of 9.75 hours in order to hop a flight to Anywhere, USA.
The findings come as a pennywise surprise — especially after travel insiders previously predicted that flights would be more expensive in 2025 than in recent years.
But New York and New Jersey’s cheapo plane perks don’t stop there.
Air hubs in both states landed prominent spots on NetCredits roundup of the country’s top 10 least expensive airports. However, they’re not the plane stations that usually come first to mind.
New Jersey’s Atlantic City International ranked fifth as the cheapest airport in the US, with domestic flights costing an average $167.88.
Trailing behind its neighboring state, New York’s Long Island MacArthur airport, where a ticket can about $285.80, secured 10th place on the roster.
Florida’s Orlando Sanford International Airport scored the No. 1 spot on the list with flights for $129.99, while Washington Dulles International Airport ranked as the most expensive hub, running travelers a whopping $509.23 for a trip.
