‘The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Fires Back At Trump’s Threat To Invoke The Insurrection Act In Minneapolis: “Protesting Is Not An Insurrection”

Whoopi Goldberg is sounding off on President Donald Trump for threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act on “peaceful” protesters in Minneapolis.

Following a second shooting by an ICE officer in Minneapolis—the first took the life of American citizen Renee Nicole Good last week—crowds gathered to protest the administration’s strict immigration policies. As tensions continued to rise and Minneapolis officials called on these demonstrations to remain peaceful, Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act and send U.S. troops to the Minnesota city.

On this morning’s episode of The View, Goldberg took time out of the first Hot Topics segment to praise those who have been peacefully protesting.

“To me, I’m really glad that people have been doing it the right way because had people gone in a different direction, this is a whole different story, this is a whole different conversation,” she said. “So, I’m happy to see that people are exercising their right.”

Goldberg then reminded viewers that “people protesting is not an insurrection.”

“It’s people just protesting,” she continued. “When he’s saying that he’s going to put that out, he’s basically saying you’re doing something that you’re not doing. I just want people to be aware that, you know, it is a difficult thing to do when they got their eyes on you.”

Joy Behar, however, called out the hypocrisy from the Trump administration when it comes to protesting.

“On Jan. 6, when there was really an insurrection, which he encouraged and even may have promoted it, basically, the administration said the people attacking police were tourists,” she chimed in.

“They will spin it and make it anyway they want,” Behar added. “If you are a peaceful protester from the left, you are creating an insurrection. If you’re doing it from the right, you’re a tourist. That’s where they’re at.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
