‘The View’: Irate Whoopi Goldberg Rips Up Legal Disclaimer That Producers Forced Her To Read About Donald Trump

Whoopi Goldberg fired back at the producers of The View for asking her to read a legal disclaimer on the air regarding something she said about President Trump.
During Monday’s broadcast, Goldberg and her co-hosts were discussing President Trump’s recent 60 Minutes interview in which he denied that he knew Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, despite having pardoned him.

“[Trump] had said that Joe Biden didn’t know who he was pardoning using an autopen,” Sunny Hostin pointed out. “How come he doesn’t know this guy is?”
“Because he’s using an autopen!” Goldberg claimed.
But Goldberg later received a legal note from the producers regarding her statement just as she was preparing to send the segment to commercial. Hostin passed the note along to her just as she was finishing her point about the administration’s ICE raids.
“What the hell? What?” Goldberg asked as she read the note aloud, “We don’t know if Trump used an auto pen to pardon…’”
She then irritatedly added, “It was a joke!”
Hostin clarified what the legal disclaimer read for viewers. “We don’t know if Trump used an autopen to pardon him but we do know that he didn’t know who that crypto guy was,” she noted.

Goldberg ripped up the note, sparking laughter from her co-hosts and the audience.
“I’m sorry,” she said as she ripped it up. “The hardest thing about this job now is no one understands nuance.”
She continued ranting as she maintained that her statement was clearly intended as a joke. “You know when you hear a joke, when somebody’s fooling around, when they’re not saying something specific, especially on this show,” she said. “I’m very specific when I’m making jokes. You know when I’m making jokes.”
None of her co-hosts appeared to disagree.
This isn’t the first time Goldberg has questioned why they have to read legal notes on the air. She once got into a back-and-forth with executive producer Brian Teta after Hostin shared a legal note that clarified, “Donald Trump has denied any wrongdoing related to the 2020 election.”
“This is what we have to do, these legal notes, each time to say what has been proven to be a fact, we have to deny it on their behalf, is that right?” Goldberg asked Teta, later adding, ” I find it odd when everybody has seen it, and they know that it’s not necessarily the truth—”
Teta promptly cut her off to explain, “We’re showing what they’ve said on the record as their statement.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
