About eighteen minutes into this week’s all-new episode of The Pitt, Dr. Robby and Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif) are discussing next steps for a patient who needs surgery, when the hospital’s new case manager, Nurse Hastings, interrupts. Almost immediately, there’s a weird vibe between Robby and Noelle. Almost like… they know each other? Or they’re flirting with each other? Even McKay is stymied by the awkward energy, asking out loud, “You could just tell me what the hell is going on here?”
“Yeah, I remember first reading the scene and being like, ‘What is going on?’” Fiona Dourif told DECIDER last month. “And then asking Noah about it and being like, ‘Oh, obviously.’”
“Then when we shot it, I thought it was like quite clear. If I had gone in not knowing that, it would have been manifest obvious while we were shooting it.”
Shabana Azeez, whose character Javadi was not in this scene, then revealed she had no idea what Dourif was alluding to. She whispered, “What’s going on? I have questions.”
“They’re boning,” Dourif enunciated carefully to Azeez, who then gasped.
“What!?” Azeez said.
“Well, I think they are. I mean, that’s not ever said, but I think they are. My two cents.” Dourif then said, with a smile, “Don’t print that.”
“We’re making a different show, man,” Azeez said. “That’s awesome.”

So is Dr. McKay’s theory correct? When DECIDER asked The Pitt‘s co-creators John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill about Season 2’s many allusions to potential character romances, they made sure to set us straight. “Well, you know, it’s really about the medicine,” Gemmill said.
“The whole show is based upon the professional lives of these physicians and nurses, but they’re also human,” Gemmill said. “Robby, you know, almost came across as a bit of a monk in the first season, but you only have 15 hours to get to know someone. So it takes a while for some of this information to come out.”
“When you start working with someone for the first time, they hopefully don’t unload their whole life story on you. So we do it in dribs and drabs, hopefully to keep it as authentic as possible,” Gemmill said.
John Wells then said, “But if you’re looking for medical romance, this is not the place that it’s likely to be.”
Nevertheless, The Pitt fans should expect to see more of Noelle Hastings in the weeks ahead. So who is Nurse Hastings? And who plays her? Here’s everything you need to know about Dr. Robby’s new “love interest”…

Who is Noelle Hastings on The Pitt? Meet Meta Golding:
Meta Golding is a 54-year-old Haitian-American actress who was born in India to international aid workers. She spent her childhood traveling the world, spending time in India, the USA, Haiti, France, and Italy, where she was competitive figure skater. After an injury ended her skating career, she started acting in Italian theater before returning to the States to attend Cornell University.
Golding has a long history of working on screen, with decades of television and film credits. Most recently, she’s appeared in Netflix’s Ransom Canyon, Paramount+’s Rabbit Hole, and Fox’s Empire.
However, her most iconic role is as Enobaria, one of the twenty-four Hunger Games champions forced to duke it out once more in the arena for the 75th Quarter Quell in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Enobaria was one of the Capitol loyalists pitted against Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and was infamous for filing her teeth into fangs to bite her victims’ flesh.
