The Giants know how good Abdul Carter can be

Let’s all just settle down here. 

That is the usual retort this time of year when there is gushing heaped on a prized rookie about whom everyone is going ga-ga. There is the reminder to wait until the shorts and T-shirts are replaced by actual shoulder pads before anointing anyone. Be excited and intrigued but for heaven’s sake, do not go overboard. 

These are sentiments to heed but the Giants this spring found it increasingly difficult to follow the script when it came to Abdul Carter. 

Veteran coaches with years of experience could barely control themselves when assessing what Carter will add to the Giants’ defense, the pass rush, the ball-seeking and the tenacity. Sure, outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen did attempt to pump the breaks when he said, “I think moving forward when we get the pads on and take steps towards practicing like real NFL football with pads on, that will be the test to see where his technique is at.’’
