‘The Buccaneers’ Season 2 Episode 6 Ending Explained: Why Does Lord Seadown Kill [Spoiler]?!?
The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 6 “Every Single Piece of My Heart” marks, hands down, the bleakest chapter of the Apple TV+ show to date. The episode opens with Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) discovering that, duh, Lord James Seadown (Barney Fishwick) hasn’t changed at all. He’s still playing the same emotionally-manipulative game he’s always played. The problem is that she figures this out too late, setting off a truly horrific series of events that culminates in a violent death.

At the start of this week’s new episode of The Buccaneers, Jinny discovers that Seadown has kidnapped their baby. Jinny and Guy (Matthew Broome) immediately return to the UK to attempt to save little Freddie. The problem, of course, is that Seadown has poisoned the press against Jinny, painting her as “mad woman” who has stolen his son.
“At that time if a woman had a baby, it belonged to the husband,” Buccaneers executive producer Beth Willis told DECIDER. “Even when that baby was still inside Jinny, she had essentially stolen his property.”
“So that by the time Jinny comes home, the papers think that she is a mad woman. They think she’s done something horrific and they think she should be jailed or put into an asylum if she ever sets foot on English soil again.”
While Jinny briefly enjoys the public’s support after giving a journalist her side of the story, Seadown coaxes her into confronting him at the opera, allowing her to look unhinged in public. Soon, she’s stuck in a literal insane asylum, tortured by doctors and kept away from her son so long as she refuses to give her husband what she wants.
When Jinny’s friends realize Seadown is holding Jinny and the baby hostage, it comes down to his family to step in and do the right thing. Seadown’s older brother Richard Marable, Lord Brightlingsea, (Josh Dylan) distracts Seadown while their sister Honoria (Mia Threapleton) spirits Freddy out. Seadown realizes he’s been betrayed just as Jinny tries to escape. Richard confronts his younger brother, who goes so far as to threaten to shoot himself.
However, after the bullet goes off and Jinny returns to the house, it is Richard who has been killed. So why did this happen? Did The Buccaneers really kill off one of its main characters? Here’s everything you need to know about the end of The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 6…
The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 6 Ending Explained: Why Does Seadown Kill His Own Brother?
So DECIDER can confirm that, yes, Richard Marable, aka Conchita’s beloved “Dickie,” is dead. He was shot by his own brother, Lord Seadown. But why? How did Seadown go from threatening himself to shooting his own brother?
“Why does Seadown choose to shoot his brother?” Barney Fishwick asked aloud. “He’s lost everything. He’s seemingly lost his wife, he’s lost his kid, he’s lost any status, he’s lost any kind of power or any route back to what he had.”
“I think there’s this thing of killing Richard where it’s this sort of last grab for some sort of status. This brother who’s always been the golden boy in the family.”
Fishwick also added that Seadown is “quite vulnerable” in this scene. “In that moment before, they shared this hug and he’s very small and I think James genuinely is thinking, ‘I should take my own life and kind of get rid of all the shame.’”
However, the tables quickly turn, sparking a “little switch of anger and hatred towards this person who has always had that upper hand on him.”
” I think that’s what’s going on,” he said, breaking down what The Buccaneers didn’t show us.
