The 15 minutes that sold Giants’ longest-tenured scout on Abdul Carter

The Post has been granted unprecedented access into the world of the Giants’ scouting department. In Part 3 of this continuing series, we meet Jeremy Breit, the team’s longest-tenured scout. He has been with the organization for 20 years, currently working as one of their two national scouts. Breit, 46, previously was a West Coast scout for the Giants living in San Diego. He grew up in West Islip, L.I., played football in high school, and began his scouting career in 2005 as an intern with the Texans. Breit is single and lives in Nashville, Tenn.

General manager Joe Schoen on Breit: “A guy I’ve known for a long time. When I was on the road as a young scout, Jeremy was also on the road. When you’re on the road with other scouts, you observe what time they get in, what type of questions they ask, are they prepared, are they staying at practice. Jeremy’s a guy, I always admired his worth ethic. He’s got a ton of knowledge because he’s been in the league so long. A trusted set of eyes, which is why he’s a national scout and covering the entire country.’’

Q: The first time you were in a room with Abdul Carter?

A: It was that 15-minute interview at the combine. You can tell he loves ball, you can tell he has that demeanor about him that we want on defense. He was receptive to the coaching in that room, so you can tell he was going to be coachable, you can tell that he wants to win, you can tell that he wants to be great. He probably knew he was in the top echelon of the draft, but he still walked about like he had a chip on his shoulder. He probably wanted to be the first overall pick.
