Teen killed in freak ATV crash following death of her brother

A teenage girl was killed in a horrific collision while riding an all-terrain vehicle on vacation — adding even more tragedy to her family history as it came after the recent death of her brother, relatives said.

Adasyn Wood Savin, 16, was riding on the back of a Honda four-wheeler with a family friend, 38, when they crashed into a white Mitsubishi utility truck on a highway in Tasmania, Australia, according to a GoFundMe set up by a loved one.

The schoolgirl, from Newcastle, New South Wales, was on a highway on the west of the island, died at the scene, along with the driver of the ATV, despite the best efforts of other tourists, reported the Geelong Advertiser.

The driver of the truck, a 40-year-old man, was uninjured and was taken to a police station for mandatory drug and alcohol testing following the crash at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, around 190 miles northwest of the Tasmanian capital, Hobart.

Tragically, this is the second recent death of a child in the family, after Adasyn’s brother, Cooper, recently died.

“Adasyn has now been reunited with her brother Cooper Savin, together again, watching over their family from the stars,” the fundraiser reads.

“The money raised will go towards bringing Adasyn home to Newcastle, funeral expenses, flights for her mum Amber to travel to Tasmania and return home with Adasyn, and accommodation costs for her family while they are here trying to navigate this devastating loss,” reads the appeal, which has so far raised more than $17,500 out of a $20,000 target.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to police.

The family was still coming to terms with the death of Adasyn’s brother when they got the news, according to a fundraiser. GoFundMe

“Tasmania Police would like to thank the group of interstate tourists who stopped and rendered medical assistance at the scene. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of both the deceased. A report will be prepared for the coroner,” a police spokesperson said.
