“It started getting to the point where it was starting to get a little bit more serious and I was like ‘I don’t have the capacity for this right now,’” Mellencamp said to her co-host, Erika Jayne, who was shocked by the news.
The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, who is currently battling Stage 4 cancer, explained that she wants to prioritize her health right now.
“I don’t feel my best. So when I have downtime, I want to rest . . . It’s not even, like, about a need right now, and I think that’s the crazy thing about this.”
The entrepreneur made sure to say that “there’s nothing that he did wrong” and he “couldn’t be a nicer guy, but the timing sucks.”
“Well, maybe you can take a pause and just maybe come back [to it in] the future or something,” Jayne, 54, suggested. Mellencamp immediately agreed.
The mom of three was first spotted with Rea on May 31 when paparazzi caught the former pair on a romantic stroll.
While Rea’s identity was not known yet, sources told the Daily Mail that she was “dating him” and very “happy.”
Mellencamp confirmed she was in a relationship on the June 3 episode of her “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast.
She still kept his identity a secret, but called him a “very kind” and “nice” guy who “takes good care” of her amid her cancer battle.
“He’s not married, he doesn’t have any kids,” she added of the “private person.”
After confirming the romance, the reality star clapped back at critics who were “coming for” her dating life.
“If I want to put myself in a situation where I’m staying busy so I’m not getting depressed, why have a problem with that?” she said, admitting the criticism does “bother” her.
By July, her boyfriend was no longer a mystery man as he was identified as a TV producer, per the Daily Mail.
He currently works as a senior producer at Dorothy, a boutique creative agency, according to his LinkedIn.
The former Bravolebrity’s cancer journey began when she was initially diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in 2022.
In February 2025, she had four brain tumors removed — only for three more tumors to be discovered, as well as two in her lungs, in March.
While Mellencamp revealed doctors had given her a 50 percent chance of beating her stage 4 cancer in April, she shared an “exciting” update that her tumors had “significantly shrunk” that same month.
Her cancer journey continues as she is still navigating her divorce from Edwin Arroyave, whom she wed in 2006.
The former couple have been co-parenting daughter Slate, 12, son Cruz, 10, and daughter Dove, 5, since splitting last year.
Their marriage reportedly ended over Mellencamp’s alleged affair with a married horse trainer.
Despite their divorce, Arroyave, 48, has stuck by his ex’s side throughout her health battle.
“No matter what, I will always love Teddi and she’s been a big part of my life,” he said of his estranged wife on Thursday’s episode of “The Eds” podcast.
“And I just like taking care of people, it’s just what I do. So it wasn’t even like a question; it was reflexive.”
