Taylor Sheridan Set To Leave Paramount For NBCUniversal In Massive Film And TV “Megadeal”

Paramount’s star writer and creator Taylor Sheridan has reportedly signed a “massive” deal with NBCUniversal, marking the end of his reign at Paramount.

Matthew Belloni broke the story in Puck News, reporting the Yellowstone creator “wasn’t happy” with the regime change at Paramount after the company’s merger with Skydance. Sheridan reportedly felt “disappointed” that the executives he worked with “were either fired or marginalized” after the merger, while incoming execs began reportedly questioning the budgets on his slate of chart-topping television series.

Sheridan signed a film and television deal with NBCUniversal. The “massive” deal includes a nearly eight-year pact for film that will begin in March 2026. But Sheridan will begin writing and producing shows for NBCUniversal platforms beginning in 2028 when his current deal with Paramount ends.

Belloni described the five-year television deal as “lucrative, unique, and potentially game-changing in the streaming business.”

It’s unclear just how much Sheridan will be earning from this deal, but Belloni called it a “megadeal” that signals “a major pay increase” for Sheridan.

The filmmaker and writer has become a prolific creator in the streaming era with hits like Yellowstone – which has spawned several spinoffs including 1923, 1883, and the upcoming Dutton Ranch, just to name a few – as well as Lioness and Landman.

NBCUniversal wasn’t the only company interested in poaching Sheridan. Warner Bros. Discovery, Apple, Netflix and Amazon all attempted to court him to strike a deal.

But the new deal could be a chance for Sheridan to return to filmmaking. “He’s said to have seen in Universal a place where he would be treated like an elite filmmaker while also producing the kind of elevated TV serials for which he has become known,” Belloni notes in his report.

There is speculation that Paramount let Sheridan walk because of the “expensive” costs of his shows, which often shoot on location and bills top stars including Zoe Saldaña and Billy Bob Thornton.

For now, fans still have a lot more to look forward to from Sheridan. His new shows NOLA King and Dutton Ranch may reportedly premiere next year, along with new episodes of Landman and Lioness.
