“I can’t,” the “Euphoria” star, 28, said after a long pause when asked if there was any truth to the matter during Variety’s Power of Women cover story published Monday. “I don’t know.”

“To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors,” she continued after a longer pause, “but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it.”

When asked whether she would be interested in playing a Bond girl, Sweeney said that it “depends on the script.”

“I think I’d have more fun as James Bond,” she joked.

Rumors that Sweeney was being considered as the next Bond bombshell in Amazon MGM Studios’ first iteration of the 007 franchise kicked off over the summer.

An insider claimed both Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and “Bond 26” director Denis Villeneuve were eyeing the Hollywood starlet for the role.

“Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond,” a source told the US Sun in July.

“Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernizing the franchise,” the source continued. “They’ve hung out together a lot, and he has admired her stratospheric rise.”

“Plus, Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of Bond girls,” the insider concluded.

After being spotted talking with the “Dune” director and former Bond girl Ana de Armas at the Toronto Film Festival last year, Sweeney was a guest at Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Venice wedding in June.

The “White Lotus” alum, meanwhile, would join the ranks of Armas, Léa Seydoux and Halle Berry if she stars as a Bond girl in the upcoming 007 flick.

Berry, 59, appeared alongside Pierce Brosnan in 2002’s “Die Another Day” while both Seydoux, 40, and Armas, 37, starred opposite Daniel Craig in 2021’s “No Time to Die.”

As for who will play the next Bond, an insider claimed that Villeneuve is waiting until he finishes production on “Dune: Part Three” to make that casting call.

However, sources suggested that the director is looking for a “fresh face” who is an “unknown” male British actor in his late 20s or early 30s.

Elsewhere during her chat with Variety, Sweeney opened up about playing boxer Christy Martin in the upcoming sports drama “Christy.” The film releases Nov. 7.

“For Christy, the ring was her escape,” she explained. “It’s almost like you’re a caged animal inside this ring, but it’s a place where she feels the most free.”

“I am definitely a caged animal in a sense,” Sweeney added. “Acting is my ring. It’s where I feel freedom. The set is where everything else goes quiet.”

But Sweeney addressed defying the “sex symbol” label as well, and appeared to hint at the controversy surrounding her American Eagle ad campaign in the process.

“I play a lot of very divisive characters, and I think that a lot of people think they know me, but they don’t,” she shared. “So when people think, ‘Ah, she’s a sex symbol,’ or ‘She’s leaning into that,’ I’m like, ‘No, I just feel good and I’m doing it for myself and I feel strong.’”

“And I hope that I can inspire other women to be confident and just flaunt what they got and feel good because you shouldn’t have to apologize or hide or cover up in any room,” Sweeney added.
