‘Superman’ Comes to Digital, But When Will the 2025 ‘Superman’ Movie Be Streaming on HBO Max?

The new Superman movie is soaring on to digital platforms to buy and rent, just one month after the movie opened in theaters. Now that’s what I call super-speed.

It’s been less than a decade since star Henry Cavill hung up his cape following Zack Snyder’s Justice League films, but the DC Extended Cinematic Universe is back at again with yet another Superman reboot. This time around, director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad) takes the reigns, and David Corenswet stars as the Man of Steel, aka Kal-El, aka Clark Kent. Clark is an alien from the planet Krypton who crash-landed on Earth in Smallville, Kansas and was adopted by a human family. Under Earth’s yellow sun, Clark has all kinds of powers, including flying, super-strength, super-speed, X-ray vision, and more.

Also starring Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced, the 2025 Superman movie has made over $585 million at the worldwide box office, which makes it a much bigger hit than Snyder’s Man of Steel. The future of the DCEU is looking Gunn. Now, WB hopes to make even more money with the premium video-on-demand release. But before you cough up $30 to watch Superman at home, you should know we expect to see the new Superman movie streaming on HBO Max before the end of the year.

Where to watch the new Superman movie on streaming:

Superman will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms on Friday, August 15 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, August 14). You’ll be able to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie will cost $29.99 to buy, and $24.99 to rent. If you rent the movie, you’ll have 48 hours to view after hitting “play.”

Superman 2025 will also release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on September 23. Both digital and physical copies will come with special features, including the following featurettes: “Krypto Saves the Day!: School Bus Scuffle” (5:32), “Adventures in Making Superman” (60:00), “Icons Forever: Superman’s Enduring Legacy” (6:05), “Lex Luthor: The Mind of a Master Villain” (5:18), “Kryptunes: The Music of Superman” (6:31), “Paws to Pixels: Krypto is Born” (5:54), “Breaking News: The Daily Planet Returns”(5:23), “The Ultimate Villain” (5:30), “The Justice Gang” (10:37), and “A New Era: DC Takes Off “(4:53).

But wait, there’s more. According to the Warner Bros. press release, “coming soon to Digital [sic] will be additional special features including a gag reel, deleted scenes, and a director’s commentary featuring James Gunn. These special features will be automatically added for consumers who have purchased the film on Digital.”

The 2025 Superman movie is not yet available on a subscription-based streaming service, but we do expect to see the new Superman movie streaming on HBO Max, free to HBO Max subscribers eventually, because Superman is a Warner Bros. movie, and HBO Max is the streamer owned by Warner Bros.

When will Superman 2025 be streaming on HBO Max?

The Superman movie Max streaming release date on has not yet been announced yet, but we can make an educated guess based on previous WB releases. Sinners, for example, was released on PVOD about two months after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Max a little under three months after it was released in theaters. If Superman follows a similar release pattern, you may see the movie streaming on HBO Max around early October 2025.

But that’s pure speculation. The Warner Bros. home releases have varied by title. In the meantime, you can always watch Superman by buying or renting the movie online.
