Sunny Hostin Considered Becoming A Nun Before Joining ‘The View’: “Girls Around You, No Men Gawking At You”

Sunny Hostin has worn many hats throughout her career as a bestselling author, former federal prosecutor, and now, a daytime television host. But Hostin revealed on The View that she once considered a very different career path after she went on a religious retreat as a teenager.

The ladies of The View were discussing why monasteries and convents have become the hottest new travel destination for young women when Hostin admitted that she once considered becoming a nun herself.

“How long did that last?” Ana Navarro asked her.

“It didn’t last long,” Hostin admitted. “I went on a religious retreat in high school called Veritas, led by nuns. I was like, ‘This is the life.’ You got girls around you, no men gawking at you and stuff, everyone’s having a good time.”

She continued, “One of the nuns is singing ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman!’ Sister Christine was singing it. I was like, ‘I could live this life.’”

But the decision didn’t stick once she returned back home.

“Then I went home and I hung out with my friends and it went away,” she said. “But I’m thinking like, ‘This is nice!’ Because you would have this sense of community for a short period of time.”

Joy Behar noted that it’s “typical” for Catholic women. “Catholic girls all want to be nuns,” she said.

But Navarro disagreed.

“Not me!” she fired back. “I’m a Catholic, too. I never wanted to be a nun.”

Even Navarro had to admit that a stint in a monastery was beginning to sound pretty good considering today’s political climate. “I don’t know but three and a half years in a convent is beginning to sound good to me. Let me out in 2028,” she said.

Behar couldn’t imagine herself and her View co-hosts committing to a vow of silence.

“How long do you think this table would last with a vow of silence?” she asked at the top of the segment. “I give it six seconds.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
