Struggling Mets shake up roster to help taxed bullpen


The Mets’ recent woes have taxed their pitching staff and resulted in a shakeup in the bullpen prior to Wednesday’s game against the Braves.

They recalled left-hander Brandon Waddell and selected righty Jonathan Pintaro to the roster.

They’ll take the spots of the two left-handers that had previously spent time in the pen, Jose Castillo and Richard Lovelady, who were both designated for assignment after pitching in Tuesday’s loss to Atlanta.

The 27-year-old Pintaro pitched in 11 games at Double-A Binghamton this season — all starts — but will likely be used in a long-relief role with the Mets.

He signed with the organization last year after pitching at Division II Shorter University in Georgia, followed by a year-plus in independent ball with the Glacier Range Riders in the Pioneer League.



Waddell, 31, has pitched in four games with the Mets so far this year.
