Stream Original ‘Running Man’ Movie Before the Remake Release

Edgar Wright’s new movie, The Running Man, hits theaters on Nov. 14, but before you head to the theater, you may want to check out the first adaptation of The Running Man, which was released in 1987.

Both Running Man movies are based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name (which he wrote under his pen name, Richard Bachman), but Wright says his movie won’t be a remake of the 1987 version, but a more faithful adaptation of the novel set further into the future (the 1987 movie is set in 2017).

The Running Man follows a desperate man who signs up for an ultraviolent televised competition where the objective is clear: stay alive. Over the course of 30 days, he will be hunted by an elite strike force; if he survives those 30 days, he wins a billion dollars.

The Paul Michael Glaser-directed action movie from 1987 stars Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role of Ben Richards. Glen Powell will play Ben Richards in Edgar Wright’s new version.

Right now, The Running Man (1987) is streaming on MGM+ and Paramount+ (both offer free trials when you subscribe via Prime Video), but you can also buy or rent the movie on demand for as low as $3.79.
