In a statement, series creator Jason Keller — who DECIDER spoke with earlier in the season — said that he cannot wait to get back to work and make more magic with the cast, including Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Judy Greer, and Lilli Kay.
“I am inspired and humbled by the audience reaction to Stick, and I’m thrilled to be making a second season with this magical cast, led by the incomparable Owen Wilson, and the wonderful creative team at Apple TV+,” said Keller. “It’s a joy to be able to continue this story. Most importantly, however, this season two order will provide me with an undeniable excuse to play even more golf. Thank you, Apple TV+.”
Stick follows a washed-up professional golfer who discovers a once-in-a-generation player, embarking on a cross-country trip with the teen’s mom (Treviño), a bartender they picked up along the way (Kay), and Pryce’s former caddy (Maron). At the time of the renewal, Wilson — who serves as star and producer — also commented on the renewal news, saying that he is excited to give fans more of the lovable found family that drew people in initially.
“I think we all had a great time making it,” said Wilson. “It’s really nice to see the show connecting with people and to know that we get a chance to continue the story!”
Prior to the series debuting in May, DECIDER also chatted with the cast and the producers, who each expressed interest in returning to continue exploring the layered dynamics between all of their characters. Wilson, particularly, said that he would love to see more of the complex relationship between his own character and Greer’s, exes who split after their son’s death.
“Jason Keller, the show creator, has sort of given us some kind of indications on some of the ideas that they’ve been batting around,” Wilson explained in a joint chat with Greer. “Yeah, I would say that the final chapter has not been written on Pryce and Amber-Linn.”
Considering that Episode 9, “Showtime,” ended with Pryce and Amber-Linn making the smart choice to walk away from each other rather than get into a messy physical relationship because they aren’t ready, a second season could not be more needed. No word yet on when Season 2 will begin filming or air, but here’s hoping it comes sooner rather than later.
Stick Season 1 is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ comes with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers and has just one ad-free streaming plan available for $9.99/month.
