Steve Cohen celebrates Mets’ ‘phenomenal’ win over Orioles led by ‘Fab Four’

Mets owner Steve Cohen took to social media to laud his team’s “Fab Four” after a dramatic 7-6 win over the Orioles on Tuesday night, which included a four-run eighth inning that tied the game and a Juan Soto single to drive in the winning run in the 10th.

“Phenomenal win tonight led by the ‘Fab Four,’” Cohen wrote on X moments after the win at Camden Yards.

The “Fab Four” that Cohen referred to presumably were Mets stars Francisco Lindor, Soto, Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo, all of whom played key roles in the comeback win in Baltimore. They were also the Mets first four hitters in the batting order.

Lindor and Alonso each hit two-run home runs in the eighth inning that helped tie the game, and Nimmo doubled in the top of the sixth to originally put the Mets ahead 2-1 at the time.

They combined for eight of the Mets’ 11 hits.

Naturally, the post quickly drew Mets fans calling for the owner to hand one of the four players a new contract.

Alonso has a $24 million player option for next season and would likely opt out to sign a bigger contract.

“Steve: Make Pete a Met for life!” one user responded to the post by Cohen.

“SIGN PETE FOR LIFE PLEASE.” another person wrote.

“Extend Pete please, so these four can stay together for a long time! Thank you!” a third person chimed in.

Ronny Mauricio also homered for the Mets in the come-from-behind victory and Edwin Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning before Huascar Brazobán got the final three outs in the 10th inning for the save.

Mets starter Clay Holmes threw five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits in what became a win on Tuesday night.

The Mets (53-39) have now won five of six games and will play two more games against the Orioles before they face the Royals for a three-game series before the All-Star break.
