‘Southern Charm’ Star Patricia Altschul Shares Wild Story About Shep Rose Throwing A Pamphlet At Captain Lee’s Head During BravoCon
Southern Charm mainstay Patricia Altschul is gearing up to leave her beautiful Charleston mansion—which she recently sold to her son, Whitney Sudler-Smith—to jet out to Las Vegas for BravoCon 2025, which, in partnership with State Farm, will be bringing her iconic dining room to life for Bravo fans to visit all weekend long.
“That is always the scene of the crime in Southern Charm, as you know,” Altschul told Decider of her infamous dining room table, which has housed multiple heated confrontations over the show’s storied run.

The Charleston socialite—who has starred in all 11 seasons of Southern Charm—described the highly anticipated weekend as “great fun,” even when some of her co-stars are having too much fun, if you know what we mean. Altschul recalled a moment from BravoCon 2023 when Shep Rose threw a pamphlet at former Below Deck Captain Lee Rosbach‘s head when they were seated in the audience for The Bravos.
“I was sitting next to Captain Lee for [The Bravos], the big extravaganza that Andy [Cohen] does, and Shep had overindulged, shall we say,” she told us. “He was misbehaving during this production and he threw his pamphlet or something that he had across the aisle. It hit Captain Lee in the head, it hit me, it hit Madison [LeCroy]. He was out of control.”
While Rose’s drunken antics were “amusing” to Altschul, BravoCon 2023 proved to be a turning point for him. After blacking out for much of the weekend, he decided it was time for a lifestyle change. He attended an ayahuasca retreat, cut back on hard liquor, and began focusing on his mental health. With BravoCon 2025 marking two years since he began questioning his own behavior, we can’t help but wonder: how will he fare this time around? For Altschul, who has known and worked with Rose for more than a decade, she predicts that it will be “more of the same.”
“I don’t think ayahuasca is the end-all, be-all,” she quipped.
When we caught up with Altschul ahead of BravoCon, she shared more about her partnership with State Farm, why she still thinks Paige DeSorbo was “mean” to Craig Conover, and what she can tease about Southern Charm Season 11. Check out the full interview below.
DECIDER: There are so many exciting things coming up, BravoCon being one of them. I heard State Farm is going to be bringing your dining room table to life in an immersive fan experience. What made you want to partner with State Farm? And what do you think it’s going to be like to see your dining room recreated as an attraction for Bravo fans?
PATRICIA ALTSCHUL: Well, it will be kind of representative of Southern Charm. Hospitality, welcoming. I have an affiliation with State Farm anyway, because I do have policies with the company and I think it sounds like fun. I can sit there, interact with the fans. Craig and Madison are going to join me. We’re all there in the Bravohood with State Farm and Bravocon.
Your home in Charleston is so beautiful. Are there any specific pieces of decor that absolutely need to be included in the recreation for it to feel authentic?
I think that the main thing is having a dining room table, because that is always the scene of the crime in Southern Charm, as you know. The living room, of course, has been witness to many episodes and gossip and tea that’s been spilled, so I think it’s nice to have the living room. It’ll be cozy because we can have chats there. It’ll be very inviting. And I love the idea that they’re recreating this.

BravoCon is famed for wild stories. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever encountered at BravoCon?
I was sitting next to Captain Lee for [The Bravos], the big extravaganza that Andy [Cohen] does, and Shep had overindulged, shall we say. He was misbehaving during this production and he threw his pamphlet or something that he had across the aisle. It hit Captain Lee in the head, it hit me, it hit Madison. He was out of control. He got up and ran up and kissed one of the girls on one of the shows and sat back down. We were amused by his antics.
Shep infamously overindulged at the last BravoCon. Do you think ayahuasca actually changed him? How do you think he’ll fare at BravoCon this time around?
I predict that it’ll be more of the same. I don’t think ayahuasca is the end-all, be-all. There’s a lot there’s a lot that’s going to be going on. I think you’ll be amused.
I’m very excited for Season 11 of Southern Charm so I’d love to ask you a bit about what we’re going to see this season. This is Craig’s first season as a single man in a long time. How do you think he did?
I love Craig. I know he has some quirks, as we all do. I think that the storylines this coming year are kind of reversing it all back to the early years of Southern Charm. I think it’s going to be a very successful season. There are all kinds of interesting things with Craig and with everybody else. It’s kind of uniquely the original Southern Charm feel, and I think it’s going to be really good.
I’m sure there’s going to be some talk about Craig’s last relationship with Paige this season. I know there was a little bit of back and forth via Watch What Happens Live between you two earlier this year. What was your reaction to hearing what Paige had to say about you? And since Paige left Summer House, did you have any thoughts on her exit from Bravo? Do you think she’ll be back?
Well, I don’t really watch her, so I don’t care whether she comes back or not. I made the comment that I thought she was mean to Craig, and I stand by that. If a man says to you, “I want to start a family and have children,” you don’t say, “Blech,” and carry on like she did. That was what precipitated my comment on Watch What Happens.
I imagine there are plenty of women out there who would be happy to settle down with Craig.
I don’t think he’s gonna have any trouble. I predict that that will not be a concern.
As we saw in the trailer, there seems to be some chemistry between Craig and Salley, and it also looks like Salley and Austen share a moment at some point. There has been such a history of love triangles on this show, with Shep, Taylor, Austen, Madison, Kathryn, and Thomas. Even Whitney has been involved in some of his own. Why do you think there’s such overlap among Charleston’s most eligible singles?
First of all, there are 13 women to every man in Charleston. To all those young women out there, if you want to come find a husband, don’t move to Charleston. I think the women are too acquiescent. They’re too available. They make great TV. But, I mean, I’d like to sit down with them and tell them how to be a closer, instead of following the path they do.
I, of course, have to ask about Kathryn since we all heard that she recently had a stint in jail. How do you think this experience has changed her, if at all? Has she been seen out and about in town?
No, I really haven’t. Nobody has said anything to me except for that incident, so I can’t really speak to that. I have no information for you. I haven’t seen her, nobody else has seen her, so I really just don’t know. I wish her the best. Whatever her situation is, I wish her the best.

Speaking of prison, I know you’ve said a few things in the press about Todd Chrisley and his plans to move to Charleston. Has anyone from his camp reached out to you? Is the overall vibe in town that people don’t want him there?
He’s very irrelevant. I mean, I said four words–there goes the neighborhood–and I mean, he went on and he did a whole program about me. It was just a comment in passing. We just don’t need any more felons in Charleston.
You threw Madison her baby shower in this upcoming season. You also hosted Cameran’s baby shower back in Season 5. What does it mean to you to get to do these kind gestures for the girls in the cast?
It’s fun for me. First of all, they’re women I love. I wanted to do something for them, I enjoy it, we all have a good time. And of course, every time I do something like this with the best of intentions, I can promise you there’s always a debacle in the works. So you’ll have to watch the premiere on the 19th to see what happens.
You get all of these personalities in one room and something is bound to happen.
You try to think of something fun, elegant, uplifting, elevated, and invariably, there’s a debacle.
I saw you and Madison were hanging out with Naomie the other night. Is there any chance we’ll see Naomie back on the show in the future? As someone who likes to play matchmaker, what do you think of her new man?
I don’t think she’ll come back on the show. I think that she’s very dedicated to her business, to her family and the new man. I haven’t met the new man, but she was telling me about him the other night, and he sounds lovely. He sounds perfect for her. Yeah, we all kind of hang out together. It’s fun for me. Because of the show, I get to enjoy the company of young women, and it’s fun.
You nailed that TikTok trend, too!
We ended up with, I think, 2.6 million [views]. I couldn’t believe it. The stuff that people actually look at and like? Some very unlikely people sent me messages–some of them [were] my friends who I would never think would ever watch anything like that. They got a chuckle out of it.
I, unfortunately, was not surprised to see Craig and Austen fighting again this season. As the Southern Charm’s matriarch, what advice would you give them regarding their drama? And do you think they will ever be able to mend fences?
They all have drama. They all have feuds, they all mend fences. It’s like a cyclical thing. I’m never concerned about it because it’ll be somebody new, something else next year. It’s funny because none of my friends I’ve ever had arguments with or feuds or anything. There’s something in the water here.

Everyone at BravoCon is always so excited to see you, but I want to know who you’re excited to see and why? On the flip side, is there anyone you’re hoping you don’t run into?
I’m friendly with Sutton. We see each other frequently because her son goes to The Academy here. And then I have friends in LA. We’ve been friends for quite some time, so I’m really hoping to see her. As far as who I’m not hoping to see, because I don’t keep up with all the Housewives, and the last time at BravoCon, I had some lovely women come up to me and said, “Oh, I just love you on the show.” And I don’t know who they are. I’m more worried about that. It’s like, “Oh, that’s great! Thank you so much.” I can’t say, “Who are you? And what show are you on?” It’s always fun. It’s great fun. I have the best time.
