Sophie Cunningham’s mom warned her to ‘watch out for flying dildos’
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham never thought it would get to this point — where her mother is sending warning texts to watch out for flying green dildos, instead of her usual “good luck” message before WNBA games.
During the latest installment of the “Show Me Something” podcast, Cunningham revealed the new pregame warning her mom sends her amid the WNBA’s flying sex toy issue.

“The funny thing is, my parents and my sister literally text me before every single game, saying ‘Good luck’ and my mom — instead of my ‘Good luck’ text — she goes, ‘Watch out for flying dildos tonight.’
“And then the other [text] said, ‘Did you really just post the dildo tweet? It got some legs,’” Cunningham continued, referring to her recent post that said to “stop throwing dildos on the court” due to player safety.
“And she goes, ‘It’s really funny, a lot of others think so too. Did you see the dildo hit the court?’
“I was like, ‘I never thought I’d be talking about this with momma P.’”
Cunningham, who couldn’t help but laugh, has been vocal about the league’s ongoing dildo debacle.
Multiple incidents involving a neon green sex toy being tossed on the court have paused recent games.
Cunningham appeared to get hit in the leg by a green dildo that crashed to the court just before halftime during Tuesday’s Fever-Sparks game in Los Angeles.
The sex toy appeared to nick Cunningham before Sparks All-Star Kelsey Plum kicked it away from the free throw line.
A crypto group behind the Green Dildo Coin has claimed responsibility for the string of incidents at WNBA games.
Two more sex toys were thrown toward the court in Chicago on Thursday as the Sky played the Dream.
During Tuesday’s Liberty-Wings game at Barclays Center, a fan attempted to throw a green dildo onto the court — however, it never made it out of the stands, according to video from the incident.
Another sex toy disrupted the Valkyries-Sky game on Aug. 1.
The first instance of a sex toy being thrown on the court came during the Dream-Valkyries game on July 29.
Police arrested 23-year-old Delbert Carver on Aug. 2 in connection with the incident, according to OutKick.
Kaden Lopez, 18, was also arrested for a similar incident at Tuesday’s Mercury-Sun game.
The league’s players, including Cunningham, have spoken out about player safety.
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve pulled reporters aside at Thursday’s practice to send a stern PSA that the issue is promoting the sexualization of the league’s players, adding that those suspected of wrongdoing should be held accountable.
