Sophie Cunningham calls ‘bulls–t’ on Skip Bayless’ Caitlin Clark injury take

Sophie Cunningham seemingly has words for everyone, and Skip Bayless won’t be spared.

The bombastic hot take artist suggested Cunningham’s Fever teammate, Caitlin Clark, may be downplaying the severity of the right groin injury she suffered on July 15, which has kept her sidelined since.

“That’s literally bulls–t. No one’s lying,” Cunningham, whose season ended early due to a knee injury sustained on Sunday, fired back on her “Show Me Something” podcast. “… Here’s the thing. When you’re an elite-level player, you not being able to play is the hardest part, mentally, physically, emotionally.

Sophie Cunningham fired back at Skip Bayless on her podcast.

“When people say stuff like that, I’m just like ‘shut up.’”

Cunningham, who has embraced the role of Clark’s personal defender — on and now off the court — is no stranger to offering up her own criticisms.

According to the 29-year-old guard, she’s been fined by the WNBA for all three of her podcast episodes so far.

Bayless earned her ire for his questioning of Clark’s latest injury as the WNBA sophomore has missed 22 of her team’s 35 games so far this season in a massive blow.

“I have wondered out loud if maybe Caitlin Clark has taken a couple of ‘injury breaks’ just because she needed a mental break from all the jealousy, all the resentment, all the on-court and cheap shots she takes,” Bayless said on his titular show.

Clark’s injury-marred second pro season isn’t getting any better, as she suffered a mild bone bruise and tweaked her left ankle earlier during a workout this month, according to ESPN.

The new injury is sure to add to the mystery surrounding an eventual return for one of the league’s marquee players.

“Until she can get into practice and until you guys see her in practice, it’s really status quo,” Indiana coach Stephanie White told reporters on Wednesday.

Cunningham didn’t have much else to add to that assessment.

“I don’t know. Everyone keeps asking. [Clark] doesn’t even know. It’s a day-by-day type of thing,” Cunningham said.
