SNY’s Keith Hernandez goes ‘TMI’ with plunger conversation
Fans tuning into Thursday’s Mets win over the Brewers heard about Keith Hernandez’s bathroom in a hilarious moment in the SNY broadcasting booth.
The conversation started with an innocent story from SNY field reporter Steve Gelbs about how Mets bench coach John Gibbons uses a suction cup, which resembles a plunger, to pick up balls from the ground.

“Whoever thought your toilet plunger would work in baseball?” Gary Cohen asked after Gelbs’ report.
Hernandez quickly interjected, shifting the story away from the baseball field and into his bathroom.
“I actually had to use my plunger a couple days ago,” he replied.
“We really don’t wanna hear about that, Keith,” Cohen responded.
Despite the attempted shutdown by Cohen, it was clear that Hernandez was not done with the subject.
“It was very effective,” Hernandez stated.

Following a few seconds of laughter from the booth, Cohen asked Hernandez one final question.
“Have you ever heard the expression, ‘TMI?’” Cohen asked.
The Mets broadcasting crew, which consists of Cohen, Hernandez, and former Met pitcher Ron Darling, are known for their ability to keep fans entertained throughout games, with the trio already having some comedic moments this season.

During a game against the Rockies on May 31, Cohen was doing an ad read for BlueChew, an erectile dysfunction medication, where he told viewers to “chew it and do it.”
Confused by the statement, Hernandez asked Cohen the meaning behind his message after an awkward pause.
“What did you mean by that?” Hernandez said.
Cohen responded by saying that he just says what is given to him for the ad reads.
“I just read the copy here,” Cohen replied once the eighth inning began. “I try to give it a good read. Try and give the advertiser everything that they paid for, Keith. And then it’s somebody else’s problem.”
The SNY booth will be in action all weekend for the three games of the Subway Series at Citi Field.
