‘Smurfs’ Comes to Digital, But When Will the 2025 ‘Smurfs’ Movie Be Streaming Free on Paramount+?

Feeling blue? That might be because the 2025 Smurfs movie is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent tomorrow.

Directed by Chris Miller (Shrek the Third, Puss in Boots) with a screenplay written by Pam Brady, this upcoming musical comedy for kids is yet another reboot of the franchise based on the 1950s The Smurfs comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo. Grammy-winning pop star Rihanna both produced and stars in the film as Smurfette, the only female Smurf in her community. The sprawling Smurfs voice cast includes John Goodman as Papa Smurf, alongside James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, and Kurt Russell.

Thought not as big of a hit as previous movies in the franchise have been, this Smurfs still raked in over $90.4 million at the worldwide box office. Now, Paramount hopes to make even more money with the premium video-on-demand release of the film. But before you spend $25 to watch Smurfs at home, you should know that we expect to see Smurfs streaming on Paramount+, free to subscribers, before the end of the year.

Where to watch the Smurfs 2025 movie on streaming:

Beginning on Tuesday, August 12 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also August 11 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time) Smurfs will be available to buy digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie costs $24.99 to buy, and $19.99 to rent. If you rent the movie, you’ll have 48 hours to watch the movie after you hit “play.”

Smurfs is not yet streaming on any subscription streaming services, but we do expect to see Smurfs streaming on Paramount+ soon, because it is a Paramount movie.

Paramount+ offers two subscription plans. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $7.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime and live CBS) costs $12.99/month. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial.

When will the 2025 Smurfs movie be streaming free on Paramount Plus?

The Smurfs 2025 Paramount+ streaming date has not yet been announced. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Smurfs streaming on Paramount+ eventually, and we can make an educated as to when based on previous Paramount releases.

Another recent Paramount animated film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, was released on digital platforms one month after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Paramount+ about two months after opening in theaters.

If Smurfs follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie streaming on Paramount+ around mid-to-late September 2025.
